‘In Taipei’ back in Hawker for another shot at the Cup

Fifty-six race veteran, In Taipei returns to Hawker to defend his crown this Saturday in the Clare Valley Toyota Hawker Cup.

The 2016 Hawker Cup was the eight-year old’s last win but should appreciate the step up in distance to the 1750m on the weekend. In Taipei switched stables in March from the Wally Bencic yard to join Paul Holtham.

Orroroo trainer Bencic has two runners nominated for the feature in Overstreet and Let’s Make Magic.

Last year’s Hawker Cup third placegetter Cincinnati has not missed a placing since returning from a spell in April and will be hoping to give Port Augusta trainer Mark Moosha another victory in the Hawker Cup after last taking out the race in 2015 with Kingdom of War.

On paper, the Paula Trenwith trained It’s Fred looks the one to beat after winning the Broken Hill Outback Cup in March and regaining the services of young apprentice Justin Huxtable.
