Inside Word: The Local Hopes in the Group 1 Darley Goodwood

The biggest race on the South Australian calendar takes place on Saturday and there are six locally trained horses aiming for Group 1 glory!

We get the inside word from some of the trainers and jockeys of our local stars!

#5 - Viddora ($8)

Trainer Lloyd Kenenwell: “She’s raring to go. Everything is in perfect order and I’m just hoping for no bad luck. Barring bad luck I think she’s going to be hard to beat.”

#11 - Steel Frost ($21)

Trainer Will Clarken: “He’s in great condition and I’ve been really happy with his work. He’s drawn a beautiful barrier so the only question is if he’s up to this class but I couldn’t ask him to be in better shape. He should get an ideal run in transit and get a clear alley to the post. Todd sticks on as he knows the horse as good as I do and you don’t chance a winning combination, which they have been.”

#12 - Lope De Capio ($101)

Trainer Glen Kent: “It’s been a bit of mixed prep with him. He's probably had one to many runs this campaign but we’ve freshen him up the last few weeks and hopefully there will be a bit of sting out the ground. The last few runs he’s been carryting a bit of weight and has been wide with no cover into the breeze so hopefully he can get some cover and get home well. He’s a chance.

On Kayla Crowther’s booking: “Kayla’s done a bit of work for us and works really hard.. We thought we’d give Kayla a chance as she knows the horse well and it’s a bit of a reward for all her hard work. She’s also in great form.”

#16 - Exalted Adam ($101)

Trainer Grant Young: “He’s a really nice horse who is racing consistently well. It's a big step up in grade for him but I think he’s got the ability. He’s missed the kick the last couple and blown his chances but if he can jump well I think he’s a decent chance. He’s going to be a really nice horse going forward whether it’s Saturday or in the future. He’s a quirky one and I hope that the switched on version of him lands at the races on Saturday.”

Jockey Clare Lindop: “I’m really looking forward to Saturday and I’m excited to have a ride in then Goodwood on Exalted Adam. It’s really competitive race but I think he’s a sneaky chance. It’s always great to ride for Ken & Helen (Smith) and Grant Young and hopefully get them a Group 1.

#19 - Mica Lil ($31)

Trainer Mark Minervini: “If she maintains her form or can repeat the efforts of the run in the Sangster she can be very competitive. We have Damien Thornton on board who rides light and has been riding well so I'm happy to have him on. The drop in the weight should help her chances too.

#20 - Nipperkin ($151)

Trainer Barry Brook: “If she runs up to her best she’s half a chance. Her last couple runs haven’t been to good and will need some luck from the barrier but if she can get a nice cart into the race she can fight out the finish. She’s three weeks between runs and she’s run well with that kind of break.”
