Early on Thursday, September 6, there was an air of anticipation surrounding Morphettville as the echo of stilettos caused even the horses to raise an eyebrow. Little did they know, it was time to launch the new season of Fashion At The Races.
A suite of the state’s most fashion forward men and women were summoned to dine on smoothie bowls and Mischief Brew Coffee, without a single pair of yoga pants or whisper of smashed avocado to be heard. Quite possibly the state’s most sophisticated breakfast event, the space was adorned with arrangements of pastel flowers and sweet Spring gifts by The Daily Edited, fulfilling our seasonal palette desires.
It was not just the space that was cause for celebration. Our Fashion At The Races finalists gathered to discover who would be crowned as our winner, and it was one Leah Habel, who had driven all the way from Warnambool that morning to win Fashion At The Races 2017-18. Mel Barnes was named Womenswear Runner Up and Robbie Lippet took first place in Menswear.
But the announcements did not stop there. The ever-elegant Lauren Dilena was proclaimed as our Ambassador, who will be hosting the Fashion At The Races Competition across the state, with plenty of style tips to come your way.
Our guests brought their breakfast A Game, each contributing to a sartorial bouquet of colours soft and vibrant, with plenty of punchy black accents and bold prints on display. Florals, stripes, polka dots, pleats and textured linens were layered to create intrigue, while silhouettes were a mix of sleek and voluminous; A-line skirts made their long-awaited debut with Spring’s arrival.
Judging from FATR Launch crowd, statement accessories are a must for Spring Carnival, with a host of luxe leather designer pieces, bright structured purses and metallic-accented shoulder bags reverberating the new season sensations. How did they get it so right so early in the morning?
