Boost for punters, owners as stewards’ vision now available

In another boost for industry participants, particularly punters and owners, replays of stewards’ vision from SA races is now available on the Racing SA website.

The replay system was successfully trialled at Wednesday’s Balaklava meeting and will be implemented at all South Australian TAB meetings – starting from this Saturday’s meeting at Morphettville Parks.

“The addition of Stewards Vision to the website continues Racing SA’s commitment to growing the industry,” said Racing SA’s chief operating officer, Vaughn Lynch.

“The stewards vision provides a deeper insight into race than the traditional lateral footage.”

“This valuable information provides a terrific resource for participants and punters alike.”

Racing SA’s innovation has been welcomed by Matthew Kelly, racing manager for Morphettville-based Ryan Balfour Racing (RBR) and co-host of The Punters Club on 1197am.

“The addition of stewards’ race vision for open viewing is a win for the owners, punters, trainers and the jockeys,” Mr Kelly said.

“As someone who engages with over 500 current owners at RBR, I have felt it was a missing tool in helping to educate owners about the events, variables and risks during a race.

“The side-on vision doesn’t always tell the full story of how tight a gap was or where a horse was positioned when a gap or a run was there but gone a split second later, and this can lead to frustration from owners and punters.

“The start is one particular area where a minor squeeze or slow step can lead to landing in a position that wasn’t option A or B. Sharing this vision will help all to explain and understand.

“It will also help to be able to share a race with trainers’ commentary.

“The addition of this vision is another case where the senior administrators of Racing SA have listened to the needs of the industry and responded, and that is to be applauded.”

The vision will be available on Racing SA’s website, under Race Info, where race replays are currently housed.
