Local hope draws well for Group 1 at Morphettville

South Australian filly Instant Celebrity has drawn perfectly in barrier six for Saturday’s $502,250 Group 1 TAB Classic (Sangster Stakes) over 1200m at Morphettville.

Star jockey Craig Williams will replace Kayla Crowther aboard the filly, who finished fourth in the Redelva Stakes first-up from a spell.

Last year’s runner-up Lyre faces the extreme outside gate with Luke Currie to ride, while Craig Newitt will ride stablemate Prophet’s Thumb, who landed barrier two.

Tony and Calvin McEvoy’s Sisstar drew barrier nine – with William Pike booked to ride – chasing her third win in succession, while stablemate Pretty Brazen will be ridden by Barend Vorster from gate seven.

Jye McNeil sticks with impressive last-start Redelva Stakes winner Muntaseera from barrier 14 while Todd Pannell has been booked to ride the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained stablemate Bam’s On Fire who has drawn barrier 12.

Following the draw, Sisstar firmed to a $7 favourite ahead of Flit, Mizzy and Lyre, who share the second line of betting at $9 with tab.com.au, while Instant Celebrity was marked an $11 chance.

Meanwhile boom filly Steinem drew perfectly on the inside in barrier one in the $502,250 Group 1 Australasian Oaks (2000m).

Coming off her luckless run in the Auraria Stakes when she covered ground before finishing fourth, Steinem will again be ridden by Melbourne Cup-winning rider Jye McNeil. Unbeaten Tasmanian galloper Hela landed barrier three.

Damien Oliver has been booked to ride Personal for the Lindsay Park stable but will have to overcome an outside gate in barrier 17 as he chases a fifth Oaks victory. Local filly Ecumenical is another to draw wide in barrier 15 with Jessica Eaton riding.

Last start Auraria Stakes winner Tyche Goddess drew perfectly in barrier five while Craig Williams will ride Sirileo Miss from barrier nine.

New Zealand filly Tokorangi drew perfectly in barrier two for her debut for Mike Moroney with Mark Zahra riding, while fellow Kiwi Llanacord will jump from a wide gate drawn in barrier 16 with Brett Prebble to ride.
