Barrier 17 good or bad?

David Jolly is guessing, like many, if a wide gate will play into the favour of talented sprinter Streetcar Stranger at Flemington on Saturday.

The talented four-year-old will jump from gate 17, but whether or not drawing hard up against the outside rail is the place to be down the famous straight won’t be known until race time.

“I’ll leave it to Jamie (Kah), but your guess is as good as mine,” Jolly said.

“A lot of the time drawing there would be ideal. We could get a smother and have the last crack at them but we won’t know until Saturday when we see just how the track is playing.”

Streetcar Stranger comes off an impressive Caulfield win and Jolly said the horse had come through his first trip away in good order.

“He seems to be well, it’s obviously another step up this week, but I am sure he’ll run well again,” he said.

At Murray Bridge Jolly also saddles up Toff Love, who comes off a luckless run in the $102,250 Sprint Series Final at Morphettville on SA Derby Day.

Jolly admitted it was a case of nothing went right last start. He is sure the horse will run well in a race ravaged by scratchings.

“It was a tough watch last time, but that can happen in this big sprint fields,” Jolly said.

“He looks my best chance of the day there.”

And stable star Behemoth is now enjoying some down time following his ‘forget’ Goodwood run, with the Melbourne Spring Carnival again in his sights.

“It was another hard watch,” Jolly said.

“He was always up against it, the way that race panned out, but he’ll have a good rest now and be back better in the spring.”
