RACE 1 - 12:17PM Thomas Farms Two-Year-Old Plate (1050 METRES)

SPENCER’S SPIRIT carries a boom on the back of a brilliant Morphettville jump-out. Connections have already knocked back some nice overseas offers, he’s been well backed and is the horse to beat. CELTIC VADER won a Morphettville jump-out on the same day and was equally impressive wearing the blinkers which stay on for her debut. ZUFASTA was another to win a jump-out on the same day beating OUT OF AFLICA and KUSU. OUT OF AFLICA has trialled OK since at Oakbank on Monday.

SELECTIONS: 4 SPENCER’S SPIRIT, 6 Celtic Vader, 7 Out Of Aflica, 5 Zufasta

PLAY: SPENCER’S SPIRIT on top.

RACE 2 - 12:52PM Twilight Races at Morphettville - Friday December 17 Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1100 METRES)

SPEED LOVER has jumped favourite at both runs at Ballarat, the latest was $1.70 into $1.55 running 3rd behind For Real Life. She draws out wide, comes up short but has found a very thin race that she should be winning. SQUEAKY GATE trialled well before sticking on gamely after leading on debut running 3rd behind Sarah’s Jule at Murray Bridge. LAKEHURST was well beaten on debut but did win an Oakbank trial and has jumped out well for his return.

SELECTIONS: 8 SPEED LOVER, 9 Squeaky Gate, 2 Lakehurst, 3 Tolkien

PLAY: Stand SPEED LOVER out in a trifecta.

RACE 3 - 1:27PM Terry Howe Printing Handicap (1200 METRES)

Even field but going with the progressive horse in HUNTLEY LADY, a promising type who was good running 2nd on debut before scoring a soft maiden win at Murray Bridge last time when she won by 4 lengths. She draws a gate and looks nicely placed here. LADY DUNMORE has won two of four starts here and was sent out favourite when 4th behind Tommy Blue last time. She gets the blinkers again. LUCY DIAMONDS has won two of three and was impressive at Gawler when resuming winning by 3.7 lengths. This is harder but she has upside. KAYSERI was well back when 5th behind Chosen Blonde last start and gets in well after the claim. TULLY’S GOLD ran well behind Addictions last time. BAMYAN BUDDHA was a Gawler winner second-up for Grant Young and drops back in trip

SELECTIONS: 8 HUNTLEY LADY, 2 Lady Dunmore, 6 Lucy Diamonds, 1 Kayseri

PLAY: HUNTLEY LADY to win.

RACE 4 - 2:02PM Doony's Dash Handicap (1100 METRES)

SMOKIN’ VAL has been freshened following a luckless Melbourne spring. Her Caulfield run three starts was very good and her form here back during the carnival was excellent. She draws the inside gate and will need some luck but is the class horse and looks a solid each-way chance. KEEP READING won consecutive races before jumping odds-on when beaten by stablemate Rodeo last time. He maps well from the good barrier and has solid claims again. Victorian DEEP DIVE has been here twice and won well on both occasions the latest in April beating May Be Fate. He draws wide but has a claim. OUTPOST won three on the bounce before a good run behind Li’l Hank last time from an awkward barrier. He draws poorly again but must be respected. SPIN THE REWARD is a dual winner here and too good for Hello Ladies two starts back. He draws a sticky gate, but the stable is in-form. ZOULAH is first-up for Will Clarken and is worth following.

SELECTIONS: 9 SMOKIN’ VAL, 13 Keep Reading, 1 Deep Dive, 6 Spin The Reward

PLAY: SMOKIN’ VAL each-way at the $6.

RACE 5 - 2:42PM The Phoenix Handicap (Heat 6 TAB Alcopop Series) (1600 METRES)

MORTY ran well making ground from a mile back last week. He’s on the quick back up but the bigger track and jump to the mile appeals. He looks well over the odds at $23 in early markets. HYPERCANE has a good record and gets in OK here after the claim. He was beaten behind Perfect Command last time but looks suited getting out to the mile. MOSCOW MULE is flying for Matt Seyers winning his past two. This is a step up in class, but he’s perfectly drawn and looks a big threat. ARTFUL LIBBY was good again behind Tahnee Tradition last week and gets to the mile for the first time. ECHO BOOMER is always thereabouts running 2nd at three of her past four. RAPID RAISER draws the inside and was a dominant winner back in class last time.

SELECTIONS: 8 MORTY, 1 Hypercane, 9 Moscow Mule, 11 Artful Libby

PLAY: Happy to have something on MORTY each-way at big odds.

RACE 6 - 3:22PM Grand Syndicates - Race with Team Grand Handicap (2500 METRES)

Victorian COUP DE TONNERRE looks well placed here. He comes off a Bendigo 2400m win, draws the inside gate and that form should stack up very well in a race like this. CANFORD has been in the money at three of four starts this trip and finished off well behind Nobel Heights last time. OURKHANI has been good in all three runs back and looks well suited here after the claim. SKY HERO ran OK behind Medieval Miss last week and looks over the odds. WERTHEIMER comes off a soft win back in class. SASUN always races well in similar class. EXALTED AMBITION was a winner on the Parks five runs back and has been runner-up his past couple. Stablemate SANTELMO FUEGO and THE RED SEA are always competitive. AZZUREOUS gets out to a suitable trip and is a big price. BELLINI BOY is second-up for Matt Seyers, stablemate PERSIAN EMPIRE is going along OK.

SELECTIONS: 4 COUP DE TONNERRE, 1 Canford, 6 Ourkhani, 9 Sky Hero

PLAY: COUP DE TONNERRE each-way.

RACE 7 - 4:02PM The Girls are Turning 40 Handicap (Heat 1 TAB Southern Speed Series) (1800 METRES)

Tricky race. COMFORT GIRL was narrowly beaten by Brazen Force last time. She’s back in trip but bursting to break through and gets her chance from a good gate. WAR CRITIC is a watch. His Victorian form has been OK running 2nd at Sandown three starts back and gets Todd Pannell, barrier 4 and the blinkers going on for the first time. SWISS HERO comes off a soft Warrnambool win and his record is solid for a race like this. He has been solid in the early betting. ZANCADA is another Victorian who comes off a last start win at Hamilton. He draws out but must be respected. PUISSANCE DUSOLEIL is capable but needs to improve on her latest behind Moscow Mule at Murray Bridge. VICTORY BANDIT showed some fight to break her maiden last time. CALL ME SHAMUS could be an improver out in trip. MONTEPULCIANO was good running 4th behind Unlaced on the Parks last week. The bigger track and extra fitness have him in the mix.

SELECTIONS: 8 COMFORT GIRL, 2 War Critic, 4 Swiss Hero, 10 Victory Bandit

PLAY: Backing WAR CRITIC at the each-way odds.

RACE 8 - 4:42PM Roadside Services City Of Marion Stakes (1200 METRES)

Cracking race and barely a horse you can rule a line through. ROCK THE RING is low flying and deserves to be favourite. He makes his own luck on speed and couldn’t have been more impressive winning his past three. If he gets across cheaply, he will take a power of beating. OPEN MINDED is a good horse with seven wins from 14 starts and hasn’t races since running 3rd in the Gold Topaz at Swan Hill. He’s perfectly drawn. TRIP ran second in this race last year and was super impressive winning last time out. She should get a good run here and must be respected. Stablemate CALYPSO REIGN is a quality horse suited in a race like this and capable of a knockout at odds if there is a hot speed. SECOND SLIP is the class horse. His form has been super this time in, he’s been freshened and back in trip. Stablemate PARSIFAL was very good first-up from a long break, he has got a big weight but has a good record. HE’S A BALTER hasn’t done much wrong winning four on end and comes off an OK run at G2 level in the Caulfield Sprint, he’s expected to go to Melbourne. EXTRA TIME has been in great form before drifting back behind Trip last time. Stablemate ANOTHER AWARD is flying and draws to get a perfect run. Ryan Balfour’s OUTLAWS REVENGE can run a race here second-up, stablemate KENYAN WONDER has ability.

SELECTIONS: 8 ROCK THE RING, 12 Trip, 5 Open Minded, 17 Calypso Reign

PLAY: Keen to back a couple at odds – CALYPSO REIGN and ANOTHER AWARD banking on a speed war up front.

RACE 9 - 5:22PM Vale Polly Hall Handicap (1050 METRES)

HELLO LADIES is a progressive horse but faces the extreme outside draw. His past two behind Spin The Reward and Calypso Reign are solid for this. He’ll get back from the gate but will be storming home late. The blinkers go on for the first time. SIDEARM is a former NSW galloper who was well tried when narrowly beaten first-up in SA. He draws a good gate and looks the danger. MOON AND BACK led throughout to win at Swan Hill last time. She draws well and can give this a big shake from a good gate. LADY SIMONE was a Gawler winner three starts back was good behind Winning Weather last time. FALLOW is racing well winning two of his past four at Port Lincoln.

SELECTIONS: 2 HELLO LADIES, 6 Sidearm, 15 Moon And Back, 11 Lady Simone

PLAY: Keen on HELLO LADIES swooping over the top here.
