Father-daughter showdown looming on the track

The Callow family will celebrate a late Christmas in Adelaide before competing on the racetrack to finish 2021.

Top jockey Noel Callow will make the trip home to Adelaide and is hoping to ride alongside daughter Stacey for the first time at Strathalbyn on December 29 and then again at Port Lincoln on New Year’s Eve.

“I’m riding here (in Queensland) on Boxing Day and then coming to Adelaide on Monday’’ Callow said.

Callow said he was proud of Stacey’s start to her career which saw her land her first winner at just her second race ride at Ceduna on December 4 before narrowly missing her first provincial win aboard Kungka Maru at Strathalbyn last Wednesday.

“She’s going really good,” Callow said.

“She’s going 10 times better than I was at the same stage,’’ he said.

Callow said it was now just a matter of trying to source some rides back in SA.

“I’ve got to get a ride first, and likewise get a ride against her,’’ Callow said.

“Stacey asked me if I’d be keen to have a ride when I am back so hopefully things work out well,’’ he said.

Noel Callow boats 1470 career wins and has ridden a double at his last two Gold Coast meetings.

Stacey Callow has three rides at Wednesday’s Oakbank Christmas meeting.
