Owners welcomed back into SA mounting yards

Winning racehorse owners will be allowed back in the mounting yard from Thursday 17 February at racing venues across South Australia.

A maximum of 10 owners are now permitted to enter the mounting yard with their trainer to celebrate post-race.

“Owners are a crucial part of our industry, and the ability to celebrate horses winning with trainers and jockeys is an integral part of the ownership experience,” said Racing SA CEO Nick Redin.

“This is the first step in returning to a more traditional race day experience, which allows owners to once again fully engage with their trainer.”

There has been a ban on owners entering mounting yards since capacity restrictions were implemented by the South Australian Government.

With the slight easing of Covid-19 restrictions, Racing SA is eager to reintroduce full access for owners and spectators.

“If you can go along and be part of the mounting yard and the dialogue with trainers and jockeys, it makes a big difference,” Redin said.

“With all racing participants now double vaccinated we hope to work with clubs in a staged approach to return to the access levels we saw pre-Covid, and this is the first step towards everyone being allowed back in the mounting yard.”

Race meetings are programmed at Morphettville, Kangaroo Island and Port Lincoln this weekend.
