Punchin makes history for Gary Boyce

Punters will see a new name in the form guide on Saturday when trainer Gary Boyce takes his first runner to Morphettville.

Boyce, 24, who works for Murray Bridge horseman Matthew Seyers, saddles up first-starter Punchin who he expects will take plenty of benefit out of his first trip to the races.

“We bought him from the Inglis Online Sale,’’ Boyce said.

“He’s trialled well enough behind Prance ‘N’ Dance, I thought that was pretty good and Saturday should be good for his education,’’ he said.

Boyce boasts plenty of experience with some of SA’s leading stables.

“I started with John Hickmott about five or six years ago. I then went and worked for Michael (Hickmott) and now I’m with Matt Seyers,’’ Boyce said.

“I’m hoping he can run well,’’ he said.

Punchin is marked a $16 chance with tab.com.au from an outside barrier with the Shane Oxlade debutante Sghirripa a well tried $2.90 favourite on the back of a smart Gawler trial win.
