Croucher filly claims Racing Rewards bonus

John Croucher has his eyes on feature races with promising filly Prance ‘N’ Dance who returns to the races at Morphettville on Saturday.

The daughter of Sir Prancealot was an $18,000 purchase from last year’s Adelaide sale, and provided connections with perfect result when resuming at Morphettville earlier this month when she kick started Racing Rewards SA Bonus month by putting $49,925 in the bank.

“It was a great result, the bonus adds a bit to it that’s for sure,’’ Croucher said.

“It’s better than having to look over the border for a race, that bonus is a big help,’’ he said.

Croucher said there was added satisfaction watching Prance ‘N’ Dance run down a $500,000 yearling in the process and satisfying to see the filly fulfill her potential.

“She lived up to everything she’s done here at home,’’ Croucher said.

“She’s a good worker, a good eater and sleeper, so it was good to see her take that to the races,’’ he said.

Croucher said he decided against paying for the Magic Millions which means the focus is Morphettville features in the coming months.

“We’re not going down the Magic Millions path,’’ Croucher said.

“When we had to pay up last year, she was a little bit small and I didn’t want to put too much pressure on her, but she’s developed a lot over the past year.

“We’re going to go the Cinderella and Dequetteville Stakes, they are both fillies’ races at set weights and you can get some black type at the same time,’’ he said.

Prance ‘N’ Dance’s debut win added more interest and put up the price of her half-brother, who will make his way to Adelaide and join the Will Clarken stable after he was purchased for $150,000 at the recent Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne.

“I went to the track the next day and Will said to me “you cost me money”,’’ Croucher said.

“He said her winning meant he had to pay a bit more, we paid $18,000 for her and he paid $150,000 for his, but he thinks he’s a nice horse,’’ he said.
