Hasta La War looms large in Lord Reims

Teagan Voorham is confident Hasta La War can flex his muscle and ramp up his Adelaide Cup claims by winning the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes (2600m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

The talented South East stayer comes off an encouraging return in the Premier’s Plate when he finished off strongly behind the Danny O’Brien-trained Wyclif and Voorham said Hasta La War would appreciate the set weights conditions of traditional Cup lead-up.

“I am yet to speak to Sue (Murphy),’’ Voorham said.

“Last start, with the big weight he had a really nice run, he was flat footed when they sprinted, but he hit the line well.

“Hopefully on Saturday we can jump and ride him where he’s happy,’’ she said.

Hasta La War has won seven races and Voorham has been in the saddle each time.

And she’d love to win an eighth race aboard the horse who was placed in the Group 2 Herbert Power and Group 3 Geelong Cup in spring and strengthen her chances of maintaining the ride in the $400,000 two-mile feature at Morphettville on Monday, March 14.

“That would be awesome,’’ Voorham said about a prospective Adelaide Cup ride.

“It’s a race by race situation, but he’s the class horse tomorrow. He should be winning if things go our way,’’ she said.
