Pannell set for stint on the sidelines

South Australia’s top jockey Todd Pannell is facing an extended period on the sidelines following a trackwork fall on Tuesday morning.

Pannell, who has won the past two Adelaide Riding Premierships, suffered a broken collarbone in the incident.

"It's definitely a broken collar bone, we're just awaiting the latest to determine if he'll require surgery or not," Manager Melissa Shield said.

"There is a never a good time for an injury like this, especially coming into the carnival.

"Todd will be reassessed next week to see if surgery is required, he's probably looking at up to eight weeks on the sidelines,'' she said.

Pannell will be notably absent from an important track step out between races at Strathalbyn tomorrow by Will Clarken’s pair of Ironclad and Second Slip.

Pannell is the regular rider of Second Slip who will be ridden by Kayla Crowther in the gallop while exciting stablemate Ironclad will be partnered by Barend Vorster.

Clarken has openly said Ironclad could be the best horse he has put a saddle on and has nominated the import for the Doncaster Mile and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Sydney next month following an impressive return to racing winning the Matrice Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville on Adelaide Cup Day.
