Change of plans for red-hot Sanblas

Veteran horseman Peter Jolly may have to put another Darwin trip on hold with promising four-year-old Sanblas.

Sanblas showed his love for the Northern Territory winning the $135,000 NT Derby last season and Jolly was considering a Darwin Cup campaign in 2022, but his impressive form may force a rethink.

“We had planned to go that way (Darwin Cup) but he’s going so well,’’ Jolly said.

Sanblas has won three of his past five stars, his past two at metropolitan level at Murray Bridge and Morphettville Parks at the weekend.

Jolly said a race like the Onkaparinga Cup at Oakbank could be an ideal target for the horse who can make his own luck.

“I’d like to run him in the Onkaparinga Cup, I think he’d love it around there,’’ Jolly said.

Most impressive in his latest win was the fact he was able to be used early from a sticky barrier, relax, and then kick away from rivals in the straight.

“I was a bit worried he was going to be left alone out in front coming off the turn, but he was just too good for them,’’ Jolly said.
