In The Boat scratched from The Goodwood

Exciting Victorian speedster In The Boat is out of the Group 1 Goodwood with a stone bruise.

Part-owner and leading Melbourne form analyst Deane Lester said the horse failed to respond to treatment for the issue and wouldn’t recover in time for Saturday’s feature.

“We know he’s got to be at his best and that’s not what he will be on Saturday,’’ Lester said on SEN radio.

In The Boat was a $7 second elect before his scratching which now leaves three-year-old Extreme Warrior a $4.40 favourite with tab.com.au.

“The horse probably overreached in a gallop on Monday or when he was working in the ocean on Tuesday,’’ Lester said.

“Yesterday (Wednesday) morning the bulb of his heel came up quite bruised, he was iced every four hours and it didn’t really respond to much treatment.

“When Lindsay (Smith, trainer) sent out the video (this morning), you would know he has a problem as soon as you turn to the left, he’s quite noticeably sore. The bruise is coming out, but time will beat us,’’ he said.
