Annells awarded Carbine Club Scholarship

Lizzie Annells has been awarded the 2022 Carbine Club Scholarship.

Annells follows on from Jacob Opperman, who was the first apprentice jockey to be awarded a scholarship in 2021.

Annells, in her third year of race riding had a successful 2021 winning the Port Augusta Cup aboard Connermara Rose as well as the Eyre Penninsula Jockey Premiership.

She has received $3000 from the sports-orientated luncheon club which was presented at their Goodwood event at Morphettville on Friday.

“Lizzie is extremely determined and driven to work hard to be the best she can be,’’ Racing SA Apprentice Academy Master Briony Moore said.

“She works endless hours in the gym as well as on the mechanical horse on top of her daily stable and race riding commitments to be able to prove to the industry she is able to hold her own on the racetrack.’’

”She is a deserved winner of this scholarship for all of her had work, on and off the race track,’’ she said.

The Carbine Club started in Melbourne in 1961, while the Adelaide-based club was established in 1983.

In addition to hosting four sports-themed functions per year, the Carbine Club of South Australia also helps raise money for charities via its luncheons, which have regular attendances of between 440 to 600 people,
