Cashin' Chex chasing more success

Ashton Downing hopes lightly-raced five-year-old Cashin’ Chex can continue his solid campaign when the gelding returns to Morphettville on Saturday.

Cashin’ Chex found his way to Downing’s stable earlier in the year and has come back to racing in great form, producing an eye-catching run first-up before winning at Morphettville two starts back.

Downing said his latest effort when he finished third behind Jaamint was another run full of merit and one that prompted her to step the horse up in distance.

“He was really good the other day,’’ Downing said.

“I always want to see my horses strong at the end and he was still running on well.

“The jump from 1400m to 1800m is obviously a big question but I think he’s going to be a horse who will like 2000m and maybe further,’’ she said.

Downing had the horse entered at Caufield where he was balloted out and said she’d like to get another Adelaide win under his belt before looking interstate.

“I’d like to win another race here with him before going to Melbourne,’’ Downing said.

“I think a 2000m race in Melbourne would really suit him,’’ she said.
