The South Australian Racing industry is saddened by the passing of Andrew Macdonald.

Macdonald started his career in racing working for the South Australian Jockey Club and later SATRA before joining Thoroughbred Racing SA in February 1987.

Macdonald was an integral member of the Racing Department holding down key roles including judging on race days, handicapping and programming along with the production of the Racing SA Magazine

He was still working part time with Racing SA until his passing.

Macdonald was a wealth of knowledge, with an encyclopedic memory of racing and was known internally as ‘the oracle’.

His passion for racing was only matched by his love for the Richmond and Glenelg football clubs, 2017 a memorable year for Macdonald celebrating a premiership double.

“He was loyal, hardworking and meticulous in his approach," colleague and good friend Rhett Cook said.

“His knowledge of all things racing was second to none,'’ he said.

Outgoing Racing SA Chief Executive Nick Redin said Macdonald would be missed by the entire South Australian racing industry

“His contribution to the industry and work with the team at Racing SA across decades was immense, it’s a difficult time for everyone at Racing SA who has worked with Andrew throughout the years." Redin said.

"He will be sorely missed.’’
