Milnes claims inaugural Bushy Trenowden Apprentice Award

A Streaky Bay double on Saturday helped rising star of the saddle Rochelle Milnes claim the inaugural Bushy Trenowden Apprentice Award.

Milnes recorded the most points across Eyre Peninsula Racing Association meetings throughout the 2022-23 season to claim the award named in honour of a local legend who passed away back in August. Trenowden's niece, Karen Skinner, presented the award on behalf of the family.

Trenowden trained more than 400 winners during his career and was the Ceduna Racing Club President for several years as well as a life member of the club and life member of the Eyre Peninsula Racing Association.

His deeds recognised when awarded the Most Outstanding Achievement by an Individual at the Racing SA awards.

Milnes, who has already ridden 17 winners since debuting at Gawler in November, summed up her feelings on social media.

“Bushy was a true gentleman,’’ Milnes said.

“His kind and friendly presence, both inside and outside of the industry is dearly missed.

“It is wonderful to now have this award to acknowledge his efforts and commemorate him.

“To have known Bushy ever since I first began going to be races as a kid, the local ties and history make me even more honoured to receive such a special award,’’ she said.
