Metcalfe on the mend after breaking collarbone

Stacey Metcalfe faces another stint on the sidelines following a race fall at Balaklava on Wednesday.

Grant Kluske’s The Publikin knuckled past the post throwing Metcalfe over the horse’s neck where she crashed heavily on her shoulder resulting in a broken collarbone.

“It’s the same collarbone she broke back in 2015,’’ mum, Di Metcalfe said on RadioTAB.

The injury comes as Metcalfe was building momentum following another injury setback when she broke her shoulder in a track work incident at Murray Bridge in October.

She returned to the saddle late last year and rode a treble at Broken Hill on St Patricks Day before bringing up her 150th career win at Mount Gambier in March.

She was in the winner’s stall at Penola last month and picked up a Group 3 ride in last weekend’s Auraria Stakes at Morphettville aboard Tottenham Hotspur for Victorian horseman Shawn Mathrick.
