Record retired racehorses compete at Royal Adelaide Show

Thorough Care SA was proud to sponsor the Racehorse to Show Horse Section at the 2023 Royal Adelaide Show.

With 39 retired Racehorses entered in this year’s Horses-In-Action competition, the dedicated Racehorse to Show Horse classes were well supported with record entries spread across both hacks and hunters.

Thorough Care SA provided record sponsorship and prizemoney of the four Racehorse to Show horse classes, Championships, as well as the ‘Fashion Off The Track’ event. With Competitors from across South Australia and interstate, the thoroughbreds were a highlight of the week.

Joshua Clarkes ‘Royal Fair’ who raced as ‘Sirkos (GER)’ won the Racehorse to Show Horse - Hack over 15.2 hands and went on to claim the Thorough Care SA Prize Champion Racehorse to Show Horse Hack. The 11 year old German Import retired from racing in May of 2020 after earning more than $74,000 in his 15 start career. Royal Fair had a brilliant show also taking out the Novice Hack over 16 hands and not exceeding 16.2 hands, Open Hack over 16 hands and not exceeding 16.2 hands, and the Hack Premier Award for horses showing outstanding Thoroughbred qualities.

‘Able Fun’, who is now known as ‘Highgrove’ was ridden and produced by Fiona McIntyre to take 1st place in the Racehorse to Show Horse - Hack under 15.2 hands. Together the duo contested and were awarded Reserve Champion Racehorse to Show Horse Hack. The Ex Chris Waller trained gelding never broke his maiden status in his 13 start career, however is now holding his own in the world of Show Horses.

Riley Shannon-Winzers ‘Shaundale Park Egyptian Prince’ formerly known as Prince Of Egypt was the judges top selection for the Racehorse to Show Horse - Show Hunter over 15.2 hands. The pair then went on to take out the Thorough Care SA Prize Champion Racehorse to Show Horse Show Hunter. Prince of Egypt never made it to the races, nonetheless has had a stellar career as a show horse.

Shown and raced as Parishon, Jan Clarkes nomination placed 2nd to Shaundale Park Prince of Egypt in the Racehorse to Show Horse - Show Hunter over 15.2 hands, and was given the opportunity to contest the Reserve Championship against strong competition to which they did successfully. The grey, New Zealand bred gelding won 5 of his 29 career starts as a racehorse, and now continues this success in his life after racing.
