Justice to test Annie's Rose in G3 Scarborough Stakes

Strathalbyn trainer Alexander Justice will throw lightly raced mare Annie’s Rose in the deep end in the Group 3 Scarborough Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night.

The three-year-old daughter of Sepoy caused a massive upset at Bendigo on debut when she scored at $101 beating some big name rivals including Grand Larceny, a half-sister to 2019 Everest winner Yes Yes Yes.

“We thought we would roll the dice,’’ Justice said.

“Her win was in a pretty decent maiden, it’s a Stakes race and you have to have a crack at this time of year,’’ he said.

Justice said he feels the filly will appreciate a good spell over the summer with plenty of options in South Australia going forward.

“This will probably be it for her, she’s had a good preparation,’’ Justice said.

“We’ll looks towards the autumn, I think she’ll appreciate avoiding the firm tracks we look like getting over summer,’’ he said.

Justice is enjoying a brilliant run having produced five wins from his past 13 runners including Rue Bungan who scored as a $26 chance at Murray Bridge on Wednesday.

“Three or four months ago I thought we had a nice team coming together so it’s nice to get the results,’’ Justice added.

It’s a busy Grand Final weekend for the young horseman with Spitfire Sun stepping out at Morphettville on Saturday before No Entitlement races at Gawler on Monday.
