Road to TAB Finals Day goes through Murray Bridge Gold Cup Day

THE road to 2023 TAB Finals Day at Morphettville rolls into Murray Bridge on Cup Day this Saturday.

Heats for the Rebel Raider, Viddora Fillies and Mares, Skybeau Stayers (2500m) and the Gytrash Sprint Series’ will surround a huge day of racing at Gifford Hill highlighted with the running of the $120,000 Murray Bridge Gold Cup (1600m), a heat of the Happy Trails Mile Series, and the first running of the $50,000 The Moorundi for two-year-olds run over 900m.

2023 TAB Finals Day will be held on Saturday, November 25 and will also celebrate South Australian Thoroughbred Racing’s Hall of Fame inductees.

The nine-race program will incorporate races named after the 2023 Hall of Fame inductees – all Provincial and Country level finals races.

Each of the six TAB Finals feature prizemoney of $105,000 which include:

-Rebel Raider Series (3YO 1200m)

-Viddora Series (Fillies & Mares 1200m)

-Gytrash Sprint Series (Open 1200m)

-Riziz Series (BM68 1100m)

-Happy Trails Series (Open 1600m)

-Skybeau Series (BM80 2500m)

The three $65,000 Provincial and Country finals are as follows:

-Restricted Series Final (OMW-LY 1800m)

-Country Series Final (BM70 1600m)

-Country Sprint Final (BM70 1200m)

Racing SA Chief Executive Vaughn Lynch said TAB Finals Day would again be a huge day of racing and a chance to celebrate some legends of the South Australian racing industry. 

“TAB Finals Day provides participants from across the state the opportunity to be part of another day of high-quality racing,’’ Lynch said.

The first of the heats of the Country Sprint Final – a Benchmark 70 over 1200m was run at Mount Gambier last weekend and taken out by the Belinda O’Loughlin-trained Verdi who held off Victorian raider Reynaire.

To qualify for the nine races on TAB Finals Day, horses will have to run in at least one heat to earn points based on finishing order - 10 points for 1st, 5 points for 2nd, 3 points for 3rd, 2 points for 4th and 1 point for remaining runners.

Horses will gain entry to the finals in order of points, from most to least.
