Nominations are open for the 2024 Stud & Stable Staff Awards!

Nominations are open for the Australian Stud and Stable Staff Awards to celebrate individuals who are shaping the future of our industry.

Local track work rider Hazel Fertier was a finalist in the Hosemanship category last year and earned a trip to the awards ceremony at the Gold Coast.

Racing SA’s Industry Development and Training Officer Clare Lindop is hoping 2024 is the year that a South Aussie breaks through to win one of the eight awards on offer.

“I encourage anyone with an inclination to nominate to do so as it’s a great way to recognise people who commit their heart and soul to our great industry,” said Lindop.

“With so many incredible industry people in SA I am hoping we will have even more South Australian entries this year and perhaps claim a win or two.

“There were 17 nominations from SA in 2023 including seven in the fiercely contested Horsemanship category and four in the Newcomer award.

“The awards are a great way to highlight the work our colleagues, friends or family members are doing, and a chance to honour the commitment and passion contributed by so many,” she said.

Supported by Godolphin each category has a cash prize of $10,000 for the winner and $3,000 for the runner-up.

The Newcomer category is $5000 for the winner and $3000 for the runner-up.

“One of my favourite categories is the Thoroughbred Care and Welfare Award which highlights the great work being done in the rehoming space,” said Lindop.

“A few years back Grace Chantler from the South East was also a finalist for the wonderful rehoming work she does, and I can think of so many in SA who’d be worthy winners of this award.”

There is also an overall Excellence Award which honours an individual who has made significant, exceptional contributions to the industry. In 2023 John “Crewie” Brady received the award for his 70-year tenure in the thoroughbred industry among icons like Tommy Smith and Gai Waterhouse.

The nomination process is simple and open until 5pm on Monday, February 19.

Every individual within the thoroughbred industry has a place in the awards:

· Leadership Award (Sponsored by Victoria Racing Club)

· Horsemanship Award (Sponsored by Inglis)

· Dedication to Breeding Award (Sponsored by Magic Millions)

· Dedication to Racing Award (Sponsored by Australian Turf Club)

· Administrative and Ancillary Services Award (Sponsored by Melbourne Racing Club Foundation)
