Racing Rewards SA announce changes to ownership scheme

Racing Rewards SA have announced changes to the ownership scheme from the 2024-25 season.

Racing SA have removed the 50 per cent ownership rule opening the doors for interstate and overseas owners to enhance their investment in the South Australian industry.

The stipulation is that when interstate or overseas owners purchase a horse and put it in the Racing Rewards scheme, at the time of submission they would have to nominate a South Australian trainer as the trainer of their horse.

The rule would also state that if that horse were to leave the care of a South Australian trainer, they would be ineligible for any future Racing Rewards bonuses.

“Racing SA is committed to growing the horse population in South Australia and fostering a sustainable racing industry,” General Manager of Operations, Nick Bawden said.

“The removal of the 50 percent ownership rule will help attract investment into our local industry which is fantastic for our trainers and for racing in general in this state,” he said.

Many of the horses trained in SA are broken in and agisted within the state so the added investment into Racing Rewards SA assists the South Australian industry as a whole and has the potential to increase employment.
