Bain’s bold move to Lindsay Park

Aaron Bain Racing’s rapid rise in South Australian thoroughbred racing is set to go to another level with the move to the former Lindsay Park property in Angaston.

The historic horse haven in the Barossa Valley, made famous by Colin Hayes as Lindsay Park and then Kildalton Park with the McEvoy’s will be known as Angaston Park going forward as Bain and co-trainer Ned Taylor expand their growing operation.

The stable will take over the famous property on from July 1.

Bain said the expansion into such an historic property was another exciting development for the business.

Angaston Park was originally known as Raceside when established by Hall of Fame horseman and Australian racing icon Colin Hayes as a part of Lindsay Park and was and renamed Kildalton Park under the care of Tony McEvoy after being purchased by successful businessman Wayne Mitchell.

“Our thoroughbred operation has been growing significantly in the past 12 months, and with further growth anticipated, it is a wonderful opportunity for our business, horses and owners.’ Bain said.

“There is the opportunity to have up to 70 horses in training and ultimately, we will have a focus on continuing to improve the quality of horses in the stable and success for our owners.

“On the back of a game-changing Adelaide Carnival by Racing SA, SAJC & Sportsbet, along with the much-needed government support for racing in this state which has all combined to see increased prizemoney opportunities, now is a perfect time to strengthen our brand and position in racing in this state.

“Mr. Mitchell, with a clear passion for the property and an avid supporter for racing, has done a magnificent job in the recent refurbishments and upgrades to the training facility, and we are excited by the opportunity that has presented itself to our business, our owners, current and perspective,’’ he said.

Bain and Taylor will be hoping to establish their own slice of history from the famous property that has produced multiple Group 1 winners from the Golden Slipper to Melbourne Cup.

“There is no more influential figure in South Australian racing then the great Colin Hayes who firmly believed ‘the future belongs to those who plan for it’ and we are excited to take Aaron Bain Racing to the next level at Angaston Park,” Bain added.

“There have been many winners, and champions of the turf prepared out of the historic property over many decades, and we are looking forward to building on that,’’ he said.

The stable will maintain their 20-horse barn on-course at Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club which they plan to keep offering flexibility in training and preparing our horses.

Bain started his training career in the 2021-22 season before joining a partnership with Ned Taylor this season and they are having a career-best season with 22 victories, from a boutique team to include eight metropolitan winners.
