Group 3 Cummings Stakes winner En Francais debuts in Queensland

South Australian mare En Francais is poised to debut in Queensland for new trainer David Vandyke.

Previously trained by part-owner Jake Stephens, En Francais failed to make her $350,000 reserve at the recent Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast, with connections opting to race the mare on under the care of Vandyke on the Gold Coast where she will trial today.

“After getting passed in at the sale we decided we’d send her to David,’’ Stephens said.

“We didn’t want to give her away,’ he said.

Connections made the decision to head north following her brilliant win in the Group 3 Cummings Stakes at Morphettville on Goodwood Day, the decision to head interstate due to her high rating and previous issues with interstate travel.

“She just doesn’t handle the travel,’’ Stephens said.

“That hindered us every time she went to Victoria.

“There isn’t much for her over here, we may look to leave her with another trainer in Victoria after Queensland,’’ he said.
