Vale Dennis Markham & Des Coleman

The South Australian racing industry is saddened by the passing of two legendary figures over the weekend.

Hall Of Fame jockey Des Coleman (pictured right) passed away on Monday morning aged 92 which followed the passing of celebrated print journalist Dennis Markham (pictured left) last Friday.

Coleman, won three Adelaide Cups, two Goodwood Handicaps along with more than 2000 winners that included multiple Group 1 victories during his successful riding career.

He also rode internationally with riding stints in Singapore, Turkey, England and Malaysia.

Markham worked for the Melbourne Age before he was at the helm as the Racing Editor for The Advertiser covering more than 30 Melbourne Spring Carnivals during his decorated career.
