Group 3 Sires' Produce Stakes moves date

Racing SA has shifted the Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes to Saturday July 20, a move to give trainer’s one last chance at securing prized Black Type status before the end of their debut season, the new date being a product of the restructured Adelaide Racing Carnival 2yo program.

The Group 3 SA Sires’ Produce was won by exciting SA Spring prospect Air Assault, in 2023.

“With the changes in the two-years-old Autumn program, we are looking forward to hosting the last Black Type two-years-old race of the season. We expect to receive a lot of interest in the race and we hope that results in good nominations from local and interstate trainers,” Racing SA, Racing Operations Manager, Greg Rudolph said.

“The change also improves the flow of the two-years-old program, allowing trainers to target the Oaklands Plate this weekend and then three weeks to the Sires' next month, which we think should work well,” he added.

"The Oaklands shapes as a strong mix of local and interstate horses and will be a likely indicator of the strength of the Sires' Produce in three weeks' time."

There will also be a chance for the youngsters in another late season feature with the Listed Lightning Stakes (1050m) – for two and three-year-old’s - run the following Saturday on the Parks track at Morphettville.

The Lightning Stakes was the race Nature Strip gave his rivals a galloping lesson and announced himself as a future sprinting star in back in 2018."

Racing SA has enjoyed continual uplift in Saturday metropolitan field sizes for the last six months, currently averaging above 12 runners per race.

“We have had an excellent response to prizemoney increases in general, including the very successful Adelaide Racing Carnival, considered programming to bolster metropolitan field sizes and strong support from consultation with stakeholders, who are on board with these changes,” said Rudolph.
