McEvoys chasing fourth Listed Oaklands Plate in six years

Tony and Calvin McEvoy will chase a fourth $120,000 Listed Oaklands Plate (1400m) in six years at Morphettville on Saturday.

The McEvoy’s saddle up Cavity Bay, who will wear the famous Makybe Diva colours, coming to Adelaide on the back of a narrow Swan Hill victory.

“She did a bloody good job last start against the older, more seasoned horses,’’ Tony McEvoy said.

“She’s really come on from that win and I think second-up, she should be very competitive,’’ he said.

The stable won their first Oaklands Plate in 2018 with Unfair Dismissal before Westport made it consecutive wins for the stable in 2019, Mac ‘N’ Cheese giving them a third in 2021 with Barend Vorster in the saddle.

“We think she’s a Saturday Melbourne-class filly,’’ McEvoy said.

“She’s travelled over (to Adelaide) well and I am sure she’ll acquit herself well,’’ he said.

Dual licenced Murray Bridge horsewoman Sophie Logan will saddle up her first black type runner with Serinite Illusion in the feature.

The colt was beaten four lengths behind Royal Majesty at Morphettville on debut and won a recent Gifford Hill trial leading in.
